Ostuni of pre-Roman origin built on three hills, is one of the most stunning cities in southern Italy; famous for the dazzling effect of its whitewashed houses, known as the ‘white city’. It is a genuine and charming example of Mediterranean architecture. The brightness of its whitewashed houses, set against the pink-tinged brown of its principal monument, makes the town stand out in the green of the surrounding area. The centre, is composed of steep medieval alley, is still circled by ramparts. The focus of town life is the triangular Piazza della Liberta’. Ostuni has numerous churches, both of baroque and gothic style, a beautiful Cathedral that stands at the heart of the old quarter.
