Istoria, a Member of Design Hotels, is a 12 suite retreat and  located on Santorini’s paradisiac eastern half, right on the seafront of the renowned black sand beach of Perivolos, a 3km stretch of volcanic black sand in the pristine eastern side of the island that is still left undisturbed by the visiting crowds. 

The spaces in the hotel are intended to make guests feel as if they are living in an authentic Santorinian mansion, reminiscing the estate that once stood in its place. The premises included 5 stables where the former owner used to keep her beloved horses.The building elements of the original estate are incorporated in the interiors of the suites, creating a spectacular combination of original and contemporary features. Every corner is imbued with a sense of intimacy, relaxation, and most importantly, comfort, for a prevailing atmosphere that feels like a home from home. This vision is brought to life by the Athens-based firm Interior Design Laboratorium, who have replicated the experience of a Santorini mansion via a fusion of traditional island architecture and a stripped-down contemporary aesthetic that pervades all areas.

Open to the elements beneath canvas sails with stylishly rustic wooden tables and chairs set on the black sand, Istoria’s Mr. E Restaurant, led by the celebrated Chef Alexandros Tsiotinis, is home to Greek gastronomy reimagined. Offering a unique culinary journey that is influenced by Santorini’s epicurean heritage and its abundance of fresh seafood, the cuisine at Mr. E pays tribute to old traditional recipes and local produce, best savoured with a glass of sublime Santorinian wine.

Istoria’s private beach club is the ultimate spot to unwind under the bright Cycladic sun and savour wellness-inspired cocktails and delectable nibbles. An impressively large pool, made with a spectacular green artisan tile work, ensconced within protective walls and bounded by loungers is enhanced by a statement sunken pool bar. Amenities are rounded up with the serene Elios Spa offering treatments that cure the body, soul and spirit.

Lounge on the sunbeds of the 45 sq.m. terrace or relax in the outdoor hot tub and enjoy the spectacular sea view in full privacy. Breakfast in bed is available in all suites.

  The Conte Suite is located on the hotel’s first floor, and features a king-size bed with luxury linens, individually controlled reading lights, big windows, climate control, high-speed wireless Internet, smart flat screen TV, telephone and a laptop-sized safe.
