Built in 1884, the Grand Hotel Gardone Riviera is still the leading hotel in the area, with its sense of timeless elegance and style. Renowned as the most fashionable hotel on the Lake, its famous guests have included Winston Churchill, Gabriele d'Annunzio, and Somerset Maugham, and it rumoured that Vladimir Nabokov was inspired to write ‘Lolita’ after spotting a young girl here!
After the Second World War, Sir Winston Churchill was a frequent guest of the Grand.
The gardens of the hotel are particularly beautiful, due to the many colourful plants and flowers, creating a most wonderful relaxing atmosphere in a tranquil setting. There is access to the Lake from the gardens.
RESTAURANTS & BARS
The refined and welcoming dining room, with its splendid lake views, offers excellent traditional cuisine and international dishes. In the Summer, for lunch, an extensive buffet is laid out on the garden terrace, near the swimming pool, whilst dinner is served in the Lakeside Restaurant where the emphasis is on fresh, refined cuisine and local specialities.
Since then this bar has been re-named ‘Winnie’s Bar’ in his honour. Today you can taste delicious snacks or imaginative cocktails by the lake until sunset.
RELAX
During his holidays he loved to spend long, relaxing hours by the pool bar drinking his favourite champagne.
The hotel has a Wellness Centre offering facials, various massages and aromatherapy.
