Fun Fact:
How Apulians Avoided Tax:
In Puglia, the region’s distinctive Trulli houses were built without mortar, using dry stone construction. The reason for this quirky design was to avoid taxes. In the past, local authorities imposed taxes on permanent buildings, so by constructing their homes in this way, the Apulians could easily dismantle them when tax collectors came round and rebuild them afterward. Today, these unique structures are a UNESCO World Heritage site and a charming part of the region’s history.
