THE BEACHES AT THE CHIA LAGUNA
The beaches surrounding the Chia Laguna in Sardinia are by universal consensus among the most stunning in the Mediterranean, with a scenery which harks to exotic locations while remaining on this side of the Pillars of Hercules: white sand dunes, crystal-clear waters, gnarled hundred-year-old junipers, lagoons with multicoloured reflections.
Each hotel has it's favourite beach:
Dune di Campana Beach
This sublime, extra-fine white sand beach backed by a ring of dunes stretches a mere 700 m from Laguna, Village and Oasi. It is comfortably reached by an enjoyable short ride on the Chia Express tourist road train, available to their guests day-round. For the Laguna clients, amenities include a reserved VIP area and the possibility of reaching the Beach Club via a private transfer service directly from the hotel reception area.
Monte Cogoni Beach
From the Baia hotel, walking down a natural footpath consisting of 60 steps carved out of the rock, you will reach the soft white sand of the promontory, overlooked by the imposing Chia Tower. Baia hotel guests will be pampered on the beach by the amenities offered by Baia Beach Club. Beach loungers and shaded areas nicely spaced for privacy, plus activities for the kids.
Beach de Su Giudeu
Just beyond the Dune di Campana beach, you will come across one of the most celebrated gems in the Mediterranean: an exceptionally long beach of clear sand, framed by an enchanting expanse of blue sea. And, at the back, soft sand dunes topped by hundred year old juniper trees modelled into fantastic shapes by the wind. Out at sea, just 150m from shore, and easily reachable walking and swimming in the water stands the Su Giudeu islet, a large granite rock dotted with Mediterranean scrub vegetation, where in spring goats often graze. It’s easy to see why this beach features in many a film and TV commercial.
Tuerredda is rightly held to be one of Sardinia’s most beautiful beaches. The short drive along a panoramic road to this beach, which lies just 3km from Chia, will give you an impressive view of the whole bay, with its striking colours ranging from the darker blue where the sea is deeper to the crystal clear light green of the water close to the shore, followed by the white tones of the sandy beach. The view of Tuerredda form above also shows an islet standing in the middle of the bay, easily reachable with a short swim, set in unique scenery dotted with white sailboats that seem almost suspended on the transparent waters.
The beauty of Piscinnì will leave even the most jaded traveller awestruck. This beach is reached along the enchanting Southern Coast scenic road, about 6km after Tuerredda beach. This beach, utterly solitary for ten months of the year, is an enchanting crescent of dazzling fine white sand, framed by crystal-clear azure water. Piscinnì is a beautiful unspoilt bay, with small coves alternating with rocky outcrops. In the low season it is easy to come across a cluster of cows lazily resting on the beach, having wandered down from the surrounding hills to graze near the shore.
